Texas Longhorn Contest: Calf Naming WEEK THREE
Last week’s winners
First off, thank you so much to all who participated in our two weeks of the Texas Longhorn Contest and congratulations to the winners. Once again, we had a fantastic response and wonderful suggestions. We had a hard time choosing the “best” names for our longhorn calves as, to be honest, we loved all the suggestions. However, we have made a choice. We have updated our previous post to include this week’s winners.
You can click HERE to see the winners of WEEK TWO ( Calf Numbers 3,4 and 5).
Further, it seems like we have smoothed out the gremlins. However, if you had any difficulties posting a comment, we apologize in advanced, and would like to hear from you. Please contact us via email HERE

Longhorn Contest: Calf Number 6
This week, the spotlight is on Trinket’s heifer calf.
This little Longhorn girl is special to us and we are very proud of her. Her genetics date back two decades at GVRlonghorns. In fact, her great grandmother was a foundation cow at GVRlonghorns, many years ago. Currently, her grandmother, Guadelupe’s Charm, is one of our oldest longhorns and is remarkably, still productive. Longevity and productivity are therefore, two attributes that stand out with these genetics. Likewise, her mama, Trinket is special too.
Trinket, like the cows that precede her just loves being a mother. It’s hard to believe Trinket was only born in May 2021. Even though Trinket is so young, she is an exceptional mother, with an exceptional udder and great maternal instincts. Don’t take our word for it, all the little ones love to hang out with her too.
Trinket also has a charming disposition. She never misses a chance to greet us and feeds from our hands. What’s more, she has no malice towards us or the other Texas Longhorns in our herd. She is not a dominant cow. On the contrary, she is easy going and happy to go with the flow. Trinket takes after her own mother, Guadelupe’s charm, who is also mild mannered and just sweet. In the same vein, it seems as if Trinket’s little heifer calf will follow in her mother’s hoof prints. This longhorn heifer calf is a friendly, bouncing baby of joy. If a cow could smile, she would be smiling all the time.
This little girl is the happiest, go lucky heifer. And, why would she not be? Her mother is sweet and attentive just like her mother before her, who, in turn, was just like her mother before her…..
LONGHORN HEIFER CALF NUMBER 6 , sweet, happy, friendly, what is her name?
We can’t wait to see your suggestions. If for whatever reason, you can’t leave a message, please email us with your suggestions.
