Texas Longhorn Contest: Calf Naming WEEK TWO
Last week’s winners
First off, thank you so much to all who participated in our first week, round one of the Texas Longhorn Calf Naming Contest. We had fantastic reponse and wonderful suggestions. It was more difficult than we expected to choose the “best” name for our longhorn calves as, to be honest, we loved all the suggestions. However, we have made a choice. We have updated our previous post and the winners are announced there.
You can click HERE to see the winners from last week ( Calf Numbers 1 and 2).
Further, we had a few contestants contact us via email and text because of difficulties they had, leaving comments on our blog. If you had any difficulties, we apologize in advanced, and would like to hear from you. Please contact us via email HERE

Longhorn Contest: Calf Number 3
- Our first Calf in this week’s Texas Longhorn Naming Contest is a cutie pie heifer. She is so sweet to watch in the pastures.
- One of her most endearing characteristics is that she ‘mothers’ all the little ones. She goes to each of the babies that are resting even though she is a baby herself. Then we watch as she either nibbles their ears or licks their backs in a gesture that makes us think she is checking on them just to see if they are ok.
- She stays with the babies whilst the mothers graze. She even goes out of her way to fetch a baby that she feels is too far away from everybody else.
- It’s no wonder she is such a sweetheart, her mother is Sniper’s Star.
- Sniper’s Star is perhaps, our most affectionate cow. All Sniper’s Stars calves are comfortable around us and quite sociable.
- Previous heifer calves of Sniper’s Star are Winter Star, Summer Star and Midnight Star. Their pictures can be seen HERE.
- This baby girl has an endearing nature and is pretty too. Her coat is getting darker every day.

Longhorn Heifer Calf Number 3 – our Sweet ‘mothering’ calf – what is her name?
Longhorn Contest: Calf Number 4
- Paintbrush‘s calf will be adorable in any pasture.
- He is a mellow fellow and just wants to be with company.
- You will rarely find him alone. He generally hangs out with his friends.
- Who are his friends? you may ask. Everybody is his friend! He is the guy in the center of the group. If the group changes, it does not matter. He will still be in the center of the group.
- He is slowly starting to edge closer to us. We don’t force anybody but we will not be surprised if he is letting us pet him in the next few weeks.
- It’s no surprise that this boy is so tranquil. His mom Paintbrush is the same way. She loves to be close to us and loves to be brushed. We think her boy will have a similar personality.

Longhorn Calf Bull Number 4 – Everybody’s friend, what is his name?
Longhorn Contest: Calf Number 5
Texas Longhorn Calf Number 3 belongs to our Texas Longhorn Cow Lady A
Seriously, can you handle this cuteness? This is our big baby.
- It’s true, every calf is still a baby. However, this boy is the baby of the group. He is not the very youngest, although he is the youngest in the first older group of longhorn calves.
- This boy just wants to be in the group. Can you see the picture above, with 4 calves photographed? This boy is in that picture, on the right hand side.
- His mama is not very protective. Nonetheless, she is there for him, always.

Longhorn Bull Calf Number 5 – our big baby, what is his name?
We can’t wait to see your suggestions. If for whatever reason, you can’t leave a message, please email us with your suggestions.
Thank you for spending time with us,
Cathy
Hi Cathy! What fun you are having and what a wonderful life you have raising these amazing animals! I am doing well, enjoying life to it’s fullest! So I had to throw my two cents in. In the pictures of Painbrush’s calf I see a heart on his forehead with a line leading to it. Cupid’s arrow. So my entry for his name would be Cupid 🙂
They are ALL gorgeous!
Calf number 3 – Sniper’s Star’s girl – Estrella Madre OR Pequeña Madre
Paintbursh’s calf – Buddy
Calf number 5 – Lady A’s boy – Texas’ Tagalong (because he likes to tag along AND he’s the color of a Tagalong Girl Scout cookie!)
Calf 3 — Super Star
Calf 4– Masterpiece
Calf 3 – Stella Bloo or Blue. Stella means star.
