Texas Longhorns and lots of fun!!
Last week’s winners
First off, thank you so much to all who participated in our three weeks of the Texas Longhorns Contest and congratulations to the winners. Once again, we had a fantastic response and wonderful suggestions. We had a hard time choosing the “best” name for our longhorn calf as, to be honest, we loved all the suggestions. However, we have made a choice. We have updated our previous post to include this week’s winner.
You can click HERE to see the winner of WEEK THREE ( Calf Number 6).
Further, it seems like we have smoothed out the gremlins. However, if you had any difficulties posting a comment, we apologize in advanced, and would like to hear from you. Please contact us via email HERE
WEEK FOUR 5/7/25 – 5/13/25
It’s hard to believe that our Texas longhorn calf naming contest is past the half way mark. Time goes by fast when you are having fun. We are heading towards the finish line. Even so, there are many awesome prizes still to be won.
This week we focus on two little longhorn calves- they are the best of friends, yet, it’s quite amazing to see how they are different from each other.

Texas Longhorns Contest: Calf Number 7
Princess Lea’s calf is a boy.
He will mature into a majestic steer. Currently, his mama keeps him close.
This longhorn calf is happy to stay by his mama’s side because Princess Lea has status in our Texas Longhorn herd. She is our oldest cow. In fact, in June, Princess Lea will be 18. Princess Lea is a good example of what we look for in a Texas Longhorn cow- first and foremost, a Longhorn cow must be productive. A productive Longhorn cow adds value to a herd. In addition, a Longhorn cow with longevity, pays her way, over and over, and over again with each Longhorn calf she produces.
As long as this longhorn calf stays with his mama, he has status in the longhorn herd too. As a result, this boy is carefree. He seems to enjoy every minute of every day. Whether he is playing with his friends or hanging with his mom, he is happy either way. Rest assured, if he is playing with his friends, his mama is close by. What is his name?
Texas Longhorns Contest: Calf Number 8
Calf Numbers 7 and 8 are the best of buddies.
However, opposites must attract as this little longhorn heifer is completely different to her friend. Unlike her friend, she is seldom with her mother and quite independent.
She is funny, in a delightful kind of way. Perhaps, her most endearing characteristic is her adventurous nature.
Sweetpepper is mama to this little longhorn gem. I was lucky enough to take photos minutes after the birth. Even more memorable was how everybody in the pasture came and gathered around to see the new arrival. Baby did not skip a minute and seemed to love her entrance into the world as the center of attention.
This longhorn heifer calf gushes with personality. Please help us find the best name for her.
We can’t wait to see your name suggestions for our Texas Longhorns. If for whatever reason, you can’t leave a message, please email us with your suggestions.
Thank you for spending time with us,
Cathy
